I missed this blog, too. Good to see you back.

Brendan Moss has certainly been a find at right guard. Preseason, everyone was talking about Jared McGaha or J'Michael Deane there.

Moss has looked very good on a full pulls I've watched him on where he tracked down a DB and just walled him off while Caper scooted by.

Cunningham is in the running for most improved player. He really must have worked over the offseason. He's got a huge game or two in him this year, I'll bet.

It's too bad about Hoover, so far. A lot of people were thinking he'd contribute last year as a true frosh. You have to love his size, versus the smaller DEs MSU will trot out there, but the results haven't shown up on the field. But, there' s a reason you don't want to be counting on redshirt freshman to contribute too much. He's got three more years of elgibility to show what he can do.

Sims might contribute something as a third down pass rusher, but I don't guess he'll make much of an impact there. Too bad we weren't able to redshirt him, with the junior and sophmore TEs we have, but the kid is a freak.

Not a fair weather fan just extremely busy between career, family and coaching Pop Warner football.

Don't know what has happened to SpartanPride, as he was the one who extended an invite to post here.

I'll continue to offer my take on the Spartans throughout the remainder of the football season. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for checking in to read the blog.

Hey what happened to this blog? I just discovered JGG before the season started and was excited to have somewhere to hear about the Spartans other than the RCMB. Don't tell me you're a fair weather fan and gave up just because we dropped a few games.

I completely agree with Wiley being our greatest loss. He was the heart and soul of the defense, and he made all the big plays.

I'm thinking you're overthinking this.

Our running game suffered the first two games because both CMU and MontSt were selling out to stop the run. Run blitzes, 8 and 9 men in the box. And as R2G pointed out, we were sticking with running plays even in the face of these defenses.

If ND, or any other opponent, sells out to stop the pass, I think our run game will pick up quickly.

Our Oline needs to get better, but I don't think it's as bad as you imagine.

As I understand it, a major part of the running game problem is that the QBs are allowed to audible out of power running plays even they see the defense is stacked against it. The coaches have them boxed shackled.

The biggest and most concerning thing that I noticed on offense was that we played "run first, pass second" this week. After being overly successful (and streamlined, I might add) last week against Montana State with the pass first mentality, I was looking forward to a big offensive performance all year long from MSU. Now, I'm nervous...I hope they revert to the Week 1 scheme. Sure it was Montana St., but this was Central Michigan; it only gets more difficult from here.

The links appear to be reversed, unless this became a Montana State blog.

I'm really feeling goog about the D this year. Neely is the only guy I don't have a lot of confidence in based on last year/camp reports.
